Settlers arrived in the Freelton, ON area as early as the late 1700s, carving out their existence with trapping, lumber and subsistence farming. As mills were developed throughout the Flamborough municipality, the community continued to supply white pine and oak lumber to sawmills while developing a small commercial hub with a hotel, mercantile, blacksmiths and other trades.
Today, Freelton is a quiet residential community involved in hobby farming. However, some of the community’s history is still intact, thanks to the historic Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, the Freelton Antique Mall and Precious Antiques and Restorations.
