The southern terminus of Ontario Highway 6, Port Dover, ON was known as Dover Mills prior to the War of 1812, which was settled in 1670 by French missionaries François Dollier de Casson and René Bréhant de Galinée. Growth of our community increased in the late 19th century, thanks to the arrival of the railroad but increased further after the construction of the Grand River Railway, connecting Port Dover to Brantford, Hespeler, Kitchener and Waterloo.
Cultural and recreational opportunities are not lacking Port Dover, which features a beach, harbour marina, fishing pier and yacht club as well as the Paris Port Dover Pipe Band and the Friday the 13th Motorcycle Rally that draws tens of thousands to the community each Friday the 13th. Places of interest include the “Cliff Site,” the first place designated by the federal Minister of the Environment as a National Historic Site of Canada, the Stelco Lake Erie Works in Nanticoke and Lynn River Falls just outside Port Dover.
