Lynden, ON was called VanSickle after local miller Benony VanSickle up until 1853 when Jeremiah Bishop renamed the community after Lyndon, Vermont. Like many of the communities in the area, sawmills and small farms were the main economic ventures in Lynden, which thrived, thanks to the railroad.
